The emotional case was revealed by Jake, the son of Jeff Ramsey, 61, one of the victims of the flood that devastated Kerr County, Texas, following heavy overnight rains on Friday (4th).

So far, 109 deaths have been confirmed and more than 170 people remain missing due to the disaster caused by the rapid rise of the Guadalupe River, which surged about 6 meters in just one hour.

Jake explained that his father’s trailer was parked at the HTR RV Park campsite with his wife, Tanya, 46, and their dog when the disaster began.

“When they realized there was nothing they could do, my stepmother was on the phone with her mother while my dad was calling me and my sister,” he revealed.

“We were asleep. He left us a message saying he wasn’t going to make it and that he loved us very much, saying goodbye. He called me when he realized there was no hope.”

“It was a short voice message. He left me a voicemail. He said: ‘Buddy, I love you so much. Looks like we’re not going to make it. Tell Rachey I love her,’” Jake said.

He added that it was strange hearing his father so scared, and that he could hear the sound of rushing water in the voicemail. In addition to leaving a final message to his children, Jake emphasized that his father used his last moments to help others.

Jake said he called Tanya’s brother and mother at 4:30 a.m. to warn them, as they were staying in another cabin about 140 meters from the river.

“He rescued them because they would have been asleep and swept away by the water. That cabin was destroyed, completely submerged. He saved their lives.”
